What is a routine visit?
For a routine vision exam, we recommend visiting us once a year. This comprehensive exam is designed to detect any changes in your vision, screen for eye diseases, and ensure that your eyeglass or contact lens prescription is current. The exam includes a refraction to measure your vision prescription, a dilated retinal exam, and other tests as needed. Your vision plan will be charged for this exam.
How is a medical visit different?
On the other hand, if you are experiencing a medical complaint, injury, infection, inflammation, or chronic eye disease, we will bill your medical insurance carrier for the exam. You will be responsible for any applicable co-pays, deductibles, and refraction fees. However, even if you have a medical problem, we can still check whether you need glasses or contact lenses.
The cost of your eye care will depend on whether you are using a vision or medical insurance plan. Vision insurance is designed to cover routine eye exams, contact lenses, and eyeglasses. Medical insurance, on the other hand, is intended to cover treatment for medical conditions such as dry eye, glaucoma, and cataracts.
If you are unsure about which type of insurance plan you have, our team can help you figure it out. We work with a wide variety of insurance providers and can help you understand your benefits and coverage.
It is important to note that vision insurance may not cover all the costs associated with your eye care needs. Our team can help you understand your costs and work with you to find affordable options.
